What is Sports Premium?

The Government provides funding directly to most maintained schools to improve the quality of Sport and PE for all children.  The funding is ring fenced and can only be spent on sport and PE provision in schools using the following key indicators:

1) The engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity - the Chief Medical Officer guidelines recommend that all children and young people aged 5 to 18 engage in at least 60 minutes of physical activity a day, of which 30 minutes should be in school.

2) Build capacity and capability in the school and make sure that improvements made to the quality of PE, sport and physical acitivity provision now are sustainable and will benefit pupils joining the school in the future.

3) Develop or add to the PE, sport and physical activity that the school provides.

4) Training for staff to increase their professional development of PE and sport.

5) Embed physical activity into the school day by encouraging active break times.

6) Provide targeted activities or support to involve and encourage the least active children.

7) Provide equal access for all pupils to the ange of sports and physical activities that the school offers.

8) Raise attainment in primary school swimming and water safety.
